BIG SECOND DAY PROPELS LADY RAIDERS TO TOP 10 AT JEFFERSON STATE INVITATIONAL
JASPER, Ala. — Roane State's Lady Raiders golf team wrapped up their fall season on a high note, showing major strides with a strong second-day comeback at the Fall 2025 Women's Golf Invitational in Jasper, Alabama.
Roane State finished 10th in a 13-team field, shooting a 395 on day one before responding with a 374 on day two. Head Coach Rick Maharry said the turnaround reflected both renewed confidence and steadier ball striking across the lineup.
"It was a tough first day, but they came back and did really well that second day again," Maharry said. "They all improved from the first day to the second day, and that's what you always want to see—improvement. We're working across that consistency across both days."
Sophomore Sydney Romer led the Lady Raiders with rounds of 82 and 76, placing just outside the top 10 individually. Maharry credited her sharp iron play and vastly improved short-game work for another consistent showing in a breakout fall campaign.
"Her ball striking has been very consistent," Maharry said. "She's hitting the ball really well, and her short-iron game and chipping are so much better. That's probably been her biggest improvement, and it's really built her confidence."
Reagan Bailey, also a sophomore, bounced back from a difficult opening round while continuing to recover from a hamstring injury. Maharry praised her second-day response and said her health and consistency should only improve with more reps.
"Reagan's coming off an injury, and she still played really well the second day," he said. "She knows what she's doing wrong—it's just a matter of working through it."
Freshmen Raegan Corvette and Baye Dobbs rounded out the lineup, giving Roane State a full four-player team score for the first time this fall. The experience, Maharry said, will pay dividends heading into the spring.
With the fall schedule now complete, the Lady Raiders will return to action in mid-February at Lake City, Florida, before traveling to Mobile and Pensacola later in the 2026 season.
The Lake City tournament site is also the location of next season's district championship, and Maharry is hoping the early season experience there will pay off when they see the course the second time.
"The girls have been improving every week," Maharry said. "They'll keep working indoors this winter, staying strong and keeping their swings sharp. If we can carry that momentum into the spring, I think we'll be right where we need to be."
