MEET THE COACH: ROGER PARKER, LADY RAIDERS BASKETBALL
Roger Parker is one of the newest head coaches for Roane State Athletics, having taken the reigns of the women's basketball team during the summer of 2024.
With a coaching career spanning more than two decades, including a significant tenure as an assistant coach at Harriman High School, Parker has brought a ton of expertise to Roane State.
In fact, Parker was already a well-known member of the Raider family. He started working with Roane State in 2021, volunteering with both the men's and women's teams. Coach Parker is also credited with contributing to the men's championship win during the 2022-2023 season.
"We didn't have to look far to find our next leader for Lady Raiders Basketball," said Roane State Athletics Director David Lane. "Coach Parker was a perfect fit, embodying our values and work ethic, having already added to the tremendous success of our basketball teams."
When asked what inspired him to coach, Parker said that he understands the impact a coach can have on individual players as well as the program and the entire college.
"Whether guiding a student-athlete who has clear goals or helping another discover their passion, I believe these two years at Roane State are about much more than just basketball," Parker added.
The Lady Raiders are currently ranked fifth in the conference. With two games remaining on the schedule for December, the team hopes to climb in the standings before 2024 comes to a close.
