FRESHMEN GOLFERS HALL AND CAMBRIDGE RECEIVE NATIONAL ACCOLADES
Two Roane State Community College freshmen have earned national recognition for their performances on the golf course, capping a banner year for the men's golf program.
Tripp Hall was named to the NJCAA Division II All-Region South Team, an honor based on regular season performance. Meanwhile, Noah Cambridge was selected as a First Team All-American following his fourth-place finish at the NJCAA Division II National Championship.
Cambridge, a spring semester transfer from Carson-Newman, made an immediate impact. Despite playing just one semester with the Raiders, he posted several top finishes, including a runner-up showing at the district tournament where he shot 4-under par and a historic fourth place performance at the national tournament in Plymouth, Indiana.
"Noah is the fifth Roane State golfer to earn All-American honors, and by far, he has finished the highest at nationals with his fourth-place finish," Raiders head coach Chris Griffin said. "The previous high was 10th place by Caleb Tipton."
Cambridge's 72-hole total of 3-over par at Swan Lake Resort marked the best individual national finish in program history. That effort secured his place among the nation's best, even though NJCAA transfer rules made him ineligible for pre-tournament awards.
"The NJCAA did not allow him to earn the pre-tournament award because he was only at Roane State one semester," Griffin explained. "I think that may have motivated Noah a little bit. He knew he could secure All-American by his play in the national tournament."
Cambridge, a native of the United Kingdom, returned home after the season to consider offers from multiple four-year programs.
"He's still trying to determine his path moving forward," Griffin said. "He's had a couple of offers from Division II schools and an NAIA school, so it'll be up to Noah and his family on what he decides to do."
Hall, a freshman from Cleveland, Tennessee, was recently honored for his consistent play throughout the season. He led Roane State with three tournament victories — the most by any golfer in program history.
"Tripp Hall has been a record setter himself," Griffin added. "He was the first Roane State golfer to win multiple tournaments in his career, and even though he's a freshman, he's already won three college tournaments."
Those wins included a 10-under par performance in Bristol, a title at Willow Creek in Knoxville, and a victory at his home course, Ooltewah Country Club in Cleveland.
"When you play a college tournament at your home course, there's just way too much pressure you put on yourself because you know the location," Griffin said. "That was probably his most impressive victory."
Hall is set to return to Roane State next season alongside teammates Jackson Hawkins and Jake Wroth-Oakes. Griffin is still finalizing his 2025 recruiting class but expects Hall to be a leader moving forward.
"He's maintained a high GPA while winning three tournaments, and earning this honor," Griffin added. "That's a very admirable standard he's set for our program."
With Hall returning and Cambridge's breakout season raising the program's profile, Roane State men's golf believes they are strongly positioned for continued success in the upcoming season.
