Bio

The 1983–1984 Roane State Raiderettes women’s basketball team achieved a historic milestone by capturing the NJCAA National Championship, marking one of the most successful seasons in the college’s athletic history. Coached by Andy Landers, who would go on to coach at the University of Georgia and become a legend in women’s college basketball, the Raiderettes combined skill, tenacity, and teamwork to rise to the top of the national stage.

The team finished the season with a remarkable record, dominating both their regular-season schedule and postseason opponents. Their championship run was defined by strong defensive play, fast-paced offense, and a deep roster of talented athletes who consistently outworked and outplayed their competition. The Raiderettes’ success was not only a reflection of their athletic ability but also of their chemistry and unity as a team.

The title win elevated the national reputation of Roane State Community College’s athletics program and set a standard for future women’s sports at the school. The 1983–84 championship squad remains a source of pride and inspiration within the Roane State community and was formally recognized for its achievements with induction into the Roane State Athletics Hall of Fame.

Their legacy endures as a symbol of excellence, perseverance, and the power of teamwork in collegiate athletics.
